What Does The Assessment Process Involve?
1. Initial Consultation - All clients will go through the initial consultation. Here, the psychologist gathers information about your concerns, history, and goals for the assessment or psychotherapy. By the end of the consultation, your psychologist will be able to advice regarding your mental health concerns. If required, recommendations for further assessment will be provided.
2. Further Assessment - Should you require to undergo further assessments, your psychologist will then schedule a follow-up session with you. During the assessment session, you may be required to complete a variety of tasks, questionnaires, or to provide relevant information. The duration of the assessment will depend on the assessment tools used.
3. Feedback and Report - Once further assessment is completed, your psychologist will then prepare a detailed psychological report highlighting the findings and recommendations for the next steps. The completed report may take up to two weeks, which by then, a briefing session will then be scheduled.
When Is Further PsychologicalAssessment Needed?
Certain mental health concerns affecting a person's cognitive abilities may require additional assessment. This may include assessments to rule out cognitive deficits or neurodevelopmental disorders such as:
- Intellectual Disability
- Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Attention-Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder
- Specific Learning Disorders (Eg. Dyslexia)
Some clients may also request assessments to determine giftedness, such as identifying a high IQ.
When Is Further Psychological Assessment Not Necessary?
Mental health concerns such as depression, anxiety, anger issues, physical complaints, trauma, etc, can be effectively addressed during the initial consultation. In many cases, these issues can be effectively understood during the session, and additional assessments may not be necessary. Instead, the focus can shift directly to treatment planning and psychotherapy to support the client's well-being.
What Are The Rates For Psychological Assessment?
The rates for psychological assessment will depend on the assessment tool or battery used.
